The geographical location and cultural interactions of Afyon karahisar province have shaped the unique characteristics of Afyon kilims. Natural colors are generally preferred in Afyon kilims. Traditionally, vibrant colors such as red, blue, green and yellow are used. Patterns can be geometric, floral or figurative. They are not limited to a single pattern and combinations of different patterns are frequently encountered. Afyon kilims are generally made with the plain weaving technique. In this technique, the yarns are crossed horizontally and vertically to weave the kilim. This ensures that the rugs are tight and sturdy.
